Black Horse Inn

Participating wineries and vendors will be located on the grass around the historic Black Horse Inn in Sherrill, Iowa.

This is a gated, controlled access event.

The primary feature is wine tasting and wine available for sale by the bottle the secondary feature is Iowa artists and their artwork, music by Iowa musicians and Iowa foods.

A home-made wine judging contest will be held to determine the best home-made wine in the region. Event to be held rain or shine.

ONE ENTRY PER PERSON (no multiple entries) – ENTRIES CLOSE AT 2PM SHARP
For those wishing to compete for the title of the Best Home Made Wine the following rules apply:

  • An unmarked bottle of at least 12 ounces of wine must be provided to the judging table by 2pm on the day of the festival
  • Wine should be made with fruit and isn’t limited to grapes however, the wine cannot contain any other alcohol additives, such as moonshine, hooch or white lightning
  • Wine will be judged by a panel made of local politicians and celebrities and whoever else we can find
  • Awards will be presented to the top three wines as Gold, Silver and Bronze medallion winners
  • Judging will be done using the University of California At Davis 20 Point Method which judges wines on the following categories: Appearance (Color and Clarity), Aroma, and Taste
  • One wine submission per person (no multiple entries)
